NEON Intermountain Region Observatory Network (IRON)
Basin and Range, Steppe and Land Transition (BAR SALT)
Welcome to Domain 15
This is the homepage for the efforts to create a NEON domain in the Great Basin. The links to the left allow you to explore different aspects of establishing a NEON site in the Great Basin. We call the general NEON domain "IRON", the Intermountain Regional Observatory Network. The gradients being proposed within IRON are called "BAR SALT" (Basin and Range, Steppe and Land Transitions) and contains gradients associated with human development, climate, invasive species, and infectious diseases.
In January 2007, two documents were submitted to NEON Inc, in response to the request for information regarding site selection for (a) the domain-15 core site and (b) ‘relocatable’ sites associated with addressing NEON science questions questions. You can find the details of our responses by clicking on the "Our RFI Response" link to the left. The domain core site was accepted by NEON Inc. We are working on the assumption that the relocatable sites were also accepted (within a 2-hour drive of core site). In these ‘relocatable’ sites we capture the gradients associated with human development, climate change, invasive species, and infectious diseases. In the map below, you will see the sites currently being proposed (entire map) and the core and relocatable sites (upper right map). You may refer to the bar on the left for additional site information.
