Bromus Briziformis





Bromus Briziformis, also known as Rattle Snake Brome or Quake grass, is one of 160 species of grass from the Bromus genus. It was introduced to North America and is native of Asia. It is considered a noxious species in Oregon.

Description:

Briziformis grows between 30-62 cm tall and is an annual with an open and nodding flower head. These plants have wedge shaped spikelets. Leaf blades are 2-5mm and are hairy on both sides.

Distribution:

Bromus Briziformis is prevalent throughout southeast Asia, Europe, and North America. In Utah, this species grows from the elevations ranging from 1,280 to 1,960 meters.

Ecological:

Some states including Oregon, view briziformis as an invasive species due to its rapid and prolific growth. Briziformis is also grown for its flower to be dried and used for decoration.
