Perhaps one of the greatest threats to the biology of Earth today are the extremely rapid changes in the distributions of biological organisms through intentional introductions, accidental invasions, and the increasing extinction rates of many biota. Globalization of travel and trade have significantly impacted the abilities of organisms to be rapidly transported across large distances and oceanic barriors. In today's lecture we discuss the consequences of species invasions and biological diversity loss to different ecological systems.
